Ancient Beginnings

What is a blessing?

Nowadays the word seems overused everywhere from tattoos to greeting cards. Yet scientists claim the odds of anyone existing are 1 in 400,000,000,000,000, so I don’t doubt that everyone of us are blessed just to be alive.

I do not want or need anything more than what I have already been given in my life. Because I believe that the blessing I have is something which has been here long before I existed and will continue for generations of my extended family after I am forgotten.

I feel blessed to know precisely how I got here, through one gateway ancestor twice, in both Grandparents and to even be cognizant of the sole physical object that kept this person alive after each of his siblings had died, in the form of a spoon found with his actual initials carved into it.

With this blog I hope to detail my family’s genealogical connection to the extraordinary life of Richard More.

  • Richard More was the first ancestor through both of my maternal grandparents to arrive in America.
  • He met his wife Christian Hunter and her sister Elizabeth (also in my Grandfathers tree) on a ship named “The Blessing”.
  • An ancestral thread of five women each with the same name, beginning with his first born daughter in America, woven through my grandparents families for over a century, ending with his Great Great Great Granddaughter, who was my mothers Great Great Great Grandmother and whose marriage linked my grandparents almost 150 years before their own marriage.
  • My grandparents were married on my birthday.
  • I am the one person in my family to have discovered this profoundly unique connection to him.

Yet the unconditional love I have shared with family and friends throughout my life is the single best evidence I can offer to prove I am truly Blessed.
